Like many community sports clubs across the UK, Worcester Bowls Club had seen its energy bills steadily increase over recent years. Rising electricity costs were becoming a growing concern, with the club looking for a way to reduce its ongoing expenditure without compromising the facilities available to its members.

After assessing the club’s energy usage and future requirements, Solar Select designed a bespoke solar PV system that not only delivers immediate savings but also provides the flexibility to adapt as the club’s energy needs evolve.

A Tailored Solar Solution

Every commercial solar installation begins with understanding how a business or organisation uses electricity. Following a detailed site survey and analysis of the club’s consumption, our team recommended a system that would maximise energy generation while providing an excellent return on investment.

The installation includes:

• 27 AIKO 475W solar panels
• 20kW GoodWe inverter

Together, the system is predicted to generate approximately 3,379 kWh of clean, renewable electricity every year. This will significantly reduce the club’s dependence on electricity purchased from the grid, helping to lower running costs while reducing its carbon footprint.

An Investment That Pays for Itself

One of the key factors for Worcester Bowls Club was ensuring the investment made financial sense. With energy prices remaining unpredictable, generating electricity on-site provides greater control over future operating costs.

The system has an estimated payback period of just 6 years and 10 months. After this point, the electricity generated will continue to deliver savings year after year, allowing the club to redirect money that would otherwise be spent on energy bills back into maintaining facilities, supporting members and investing in the future of the club.

Ready for the Future

While the club decided not to install battery storage as part of this project, they wanted to ensure they had the option to add it later without needing to replace major components of the system.

To achieve this, Solar Select installed a GoodWe inverter that is ready to accommodate battery storage in the future. This means that if the club decides to invest in batteries at a later date, the existing system can easily be upgraded.

Adding battery storage would allow Worcester Bowls Club to store excess electricity generated during the day and use it during the evening, when the clubhouse is busiest, or during periods of higher electricity prices. This future-proof approach gives the club complete flexibility while protecting its investment.

Supporting Community Clubs Through Renewable Energy

Community sports clubs are at the heart of local communities, but many are facing increasing financial pressure due to rising energy costs. Investing in solar energy is becoming one of the most effective ways for clubs to reduce overheads, improve sustainability and secure long-term financial stability.

At Solar Select, we work closely with clubs and organisations to design systems that are tailored to their energy requirements, budget and future ambitions. Whether you’re looking to reduce your electricity bills today or prepare for battery storage tomorrow, we can provide a solution that works for you.
