Case Study: Solar Select Enhances Solar PV System at Hodge Hill Garden Centre
System Size: 21kW
Type of Installation: Roof Mounted system
Annual Energy Production: 16,555 kWh
At Solar Select, we take pride in working with local businesses to help them achieve their sustainability goals. Our recent collaboration with Hodge Hill Garden Centre showcases how an upgraded solar PV system can maximise energy savings and provide real-time insights into energy generation and usage.
Upgrading an Existing Solar System
Hodge Hill Garden Centre already had a solar PV system in place, but they wanted to expand their renewable energy capacity with a larger, more efficient, and smarter system. Our team designed and installed a system that not only increases their energy production but also integrates cutting-edge monitoring technology, allowing the customer to track solar generation and associated savings in real-time.
The new system includes:
π· 42 x 500W JA Solar Panels β High-efficiency panels capturing maximum sunlight to optimise power generation.
π· 20kW Solis 3 Phase Inverter β A reliable and intelligent inverter ensuring seamless energy conversion.
π· K2 Trapezoidal Roof Mounting System β Secure and durable mounting designed for long-term performance.
Smarter Energy Monitoring
One of the key benefits of this upgrade is the inclusion of a smart monitoring system, giving Hodge Hill Garden Centre full visibility into their solar energy production and cost savings. This allows them to track performance in real-time, measure efficiency, and ensure they get the most out of their investment.
Environmental and Financial Benefits
With the new system in place, Hodge Hill Garden Centre will reduce its carbon footprint by avoiding approximately four tons of COβ emissions per year, equivalent to planting over 794 trees over the lifetime of the system. They will also make significant savings on electricity costs, helping them reinvest in other areas of their business.
Supporting Local Businesses with Net Zero Worcestershire Grants
This project was part-funded by the Net Zero Worcestershire Grants Programme, which supports local businesses in reducing energy consumption and cutting carbon emissions. As a Worcestershire-based company, we actively work with businesses across the county to help them access available funding and make the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
If your business is based around the West Midlands and Worcestershire, you could be eligible for funding through the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) with the West Midlands Combined Authority.
BEAS can help businesses fund energy improvements such as:
π· Solar panels
π· Improved Refrigeration
π· Building Insulation
π· Water management
π· Recycling & Waste (compactors, balers & crushers)
π· Ventilation (fans, distribution, destratification fans)
π· Heating (replacement boilers, burners, heat pumps)
π· Energy-efficient lighting (LED, controls, sensors)
The eligible regions running BEAS are:
π· Birmingham
π· Solihull
π· Sandwell
π· Dudley
π· Walsall
π· Wolverhampton
π· Coventry
π· Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent
π· Warwickshire
π· Worcestershire
π· The Marches (Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin)
Find out if your business qualifies for the BEAS programme online at www.businessgrowthwestmidlands.org.uk/support-programmes/business-energy-advice-service-beas/ or get in touch with us at Solar Select, and we can support you through the application process.
