Case Study: A Droitwich Customer’s Energy Bill of Just 15p

A recent installation in Droitwich gave us the chance to showcase just how much of a difference solar can make to everyday living. Being local to us, this project felt especially rewarding, and the results have been nothing short of remarkable.

The customer wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid and make the most of their available roof space. After designing a tailored solution, we installed a 7.12kW solar PV system paired with a 9.5kWh battery, ensuring that daytime energy could be stored and used well into the evening. When we completed the site survey we noticed that the customer need some remedial works completing on a few of the ridge tiles. The customer was more than happy for us to complete the remedial works whilst the scaffolding was already in place. 

Not long after the system was completed, the customer shared one of their electricity bills with us, covering the period from 14 June 2025 to 13 July 2025. The total charge for energy usage was just 15p. This figure perfectly demonstrates how effective solar PV combined with battery storage can be in reducing household running costs.

The system was built using carefully chosen components to ensure excellent performance and long-term reliability:

• 16 x 445W JA Solar Panels.
• 16 x Tigo Optimisers with a Tigo Gateway.
• 1 x 5kW GivEnergy Hybrid Inverter.
• 1 x 9.5kWh GivEnergy Battery.
• K2 Mounting System.
• Bird Guard.

From the sleek design of the panels to the smart energy management offered by the hybrid inverter and battery, every part of the installation was selected to provide maximum efficiency. The optimisers help each panel perform independently, while the bird guard offers vital protection to keep the system secure.

Another highlight of this system is the GivEnergy technology. GivEnergy is fully compatible with all Octopus tariffs, including Octopus Agile. The battery storage system connects directly to Octopus through an API, allowing it to respond instantly to live energy prices. This seamless integration ensures that charging and discharging cycles are always managed in the smartest and cheapest way possible. The battery takes advantage of low rates automatically, with no need for the homeowner to manually intervene.

The customer was so pleased with the outcome that they agreed to appear in a promotional video for Solar Select, sharing their experience with others who may be considering the same step. It’s always a real pleasure when someone is proud enough of their system to help spread the word.
